Senior Engineer, Suspension

Title:
Senior Engineer, Suspension

Reporting Structure:
Manager, Chassis Engineering & Vehicle Dynamics

Coordinating Functions:
Interface with staff in:
- Purchasing
- Engineering, including Vehicle Integration department
- Quality
- Manufacturing
- Finance
- Component and Engineering Service Suppliers

Key Deliverables:
- Create and maintain technical specifications for chassis component: springs, shocks, stabilizer bars, and wheels.
- Lead regular reviews with suppliers to achieve all program goals including component and system DVP&R.
- Meet quality improvement objectives through component design, process control, problem-solving techniques, supplier engagement, and/or assembly instruction.
- Meet all performance, packaging, cost and timing objectives.
- Lead, or support as required, any required chassis tuning program for Shocks, Springs, and Stabilizer Bars.
- Lead, or support as required, current and future Wheel Engineering activity with studio/surfacing support.
- Achieve PPAP of responsible components and coordinate required validation testing materials and resources.
- Other deliverables as defined by manager.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead engineering team for spring/shock assemblies and stabilizer bars for current and future vehicle programs
- Investigate semi-active dampers, other ride improvement technologies, and cost-benefit analyses.
- Utilize modeling software, such as Adams and/or Matlab Simulink, as required.
- Engineer cast & forged aluminum wheels to meet durability, strength, design and manufacturing requirements
- Perform wheel structural optimization for performance improvements, including fuel economy.
- Act as technical lead for suspension architecture, kinematics, compliance, damping and vehicle dynamics.
- Serve as primary interface to relevant component suppliers.
- Manage suppliers proactively, with focused program management mind-set. Lead project from start to finish.
- Perform all Design Release Engineer (DRE) tasks for chassis components including release process, component drawings and other supporting documentation, through verification, validation & certification.
- Support chassis development / testing strategy and timing plan to ensure compatibility with overall program; monitor resources as required to minimize risks; support alternate plans as required.
- Ensure system meets certification requirements for FMVSS and ECE. Support with data & testing as required.
- Support prototype and production assembly events at domestic or international locations.

Requirements: - Approx 10%25%20Travel required to domestic & international locations.
- Fluent in English / BS Mechanical Engineering / Strong automotive interest and aptitude
- At least 5 years experience in chassis systems, springs, shocks, dynamics and/or wheel design & release.
- Experience with simulation tools such as Adams and/or Matlab Simulink.
- Demonstrated teamwork mindset, with a positive attitude; able to handle stressful situations with composure.
