Daily Responsibilities
Job Summary:
Assesses and evaluates current network infrastructure; design, document, test and implement network services and devices. Develops and maintains prescribed procedures to be followed routinely in the form of standard operating procedures and/or work instruction. Develops, maintains and implements a proactive capacity planning model to support business decisions. Detects, identifies and performs problem isolation and resolution throughout the network architecture. Utilize monitoring, mapping and alerting software to perform network management by proactively collecting data and conducting real-time analysis of the performance of the network. Responsible for engineering projects of high complexity and importance. Executes contingency plans for network software and hardware failures including isolated and major outages. Provides knowledgeable consulting, technical guidance and leadership to technical review boards; configuration control boards; developers, engineers and senior managers. Provides support for an NCI infrastructure including management of the central infrastructure and end user support, including rotating 24/7 on call and monthly preventative maintenance activities. Focus on, and play a leading role in, O&M; activities, supporting customer network requests and resolving incidents.
# Required: Basic Qualifications
Qualifications:
* Ten (10) years of IT knowledge and demonstrated hands-on experience and/or training in network engineering and administration.
* Experience installing and supporting network devices – preferably Enterasys (Extreme Networks).
* Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing.
* Must possess strong organizational skills and strong interpersonal skills to effectively relate to agency and customer needs.
Experience with one or more of the following technologies:
* Enterasys (Extreme Networks) S, N, K and C Series switches or equivalent
* Enterasys (Extreme Networks) Network Access Control (NAC)
* Enterasys (Extreme Networks) NetSight Suite
* Enterasys (Extreme Networks) Policy Manager
* F5 Global Traffic Manager (GTM)
* F5 Local Traffic Manager (LTM)
* Cacti RRDTool
* Wireshark/tcpdump
* ServiceNow
Two or more of the following certifications (or equivalent) recommended:
* Enterasys (Extreme Networks) Certified Expert (ECE)
* Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Routing and Switching
* F5 Certified Technology Specialist (F5-CTS) GTM
* F5 Certified Technology Specialist (F5-CTS) LTM
ITIL Foundation certification or ability to obtain certification within 3 months desired.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Social Science.
Job Responsibilities:

* Supports network upgrade projects or initiatives, through the lifecycle, including design, test and deployment.
* Supports network infrastructure and IP address management—including DHCP—for local area networks.
* Replaces failed components as needed.
* Supports end-user connectivity needs.
* Supports the installation, maintenance, operation, and security of the NCI LAN infrastructure and network devices.
* Manages access to NCI network segments and resources in compliance with HHS/NIH network segmentation and network access policies.
* Updates hardware, operating systems, and software to provide needed functionality and security.
* Manages and maintains Enterasys Network Access Control (NAC) in coordination with Security, Infrastructure, and Desktop Support teams.
* Supports the planning and execution of datacenter migration efforts, involving multiple datacenters, mission-critical resources and a diverse group of stakeholders.
* Supports the planning, testing, and deployment of segmented networks to replace existing flat networks.
* Manages network and server system configurations, including network design, fault tolerance, disaster recovery, trouble
