Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations
Summary of Role: The Solution Sales Architect will translate customer problems into a competitively advantageous solution that will lead to a profitable implementation. This role will utilize deep technical architecture of MSI products, applications, 3rd party and customer legacy IT to interpret business requirements into technical architecture and work with presales Technical Architects/Engineering to create a build of materials (BOM).

The role will work closely with the sales teams engage the Product business units for technical clarifications/approach to complex requirements as well as interpret technical requirements with Services business unit for delivery scoping and project phasing.

Critical to this role is the ability to identify technical requirements that can go into product or services roadmaps and architectures as well as demonstrate the end-to-end technical differentiations of MSI solutions. This role will also support demos/prototype and Proof of Concept and develop a global SA community of interest across sales and services. Finally, the role will be responsible for securing customer references/advocacy.


Responsibilities:
• Be the customer’s technical consultant (for both MSI and existing in-house technology)
• Identify explicit/implicit customer problems, needs & initiatives
• Define, analyze and validate use cases and workflows with key customer stakeholders
• Build ROI for potential projects
• Develop local partnerships and overall ecosystem for solutions offerings
• Research and select appropriate technologies
• Define and analyze system interfaces
• Design a solution based on:
o Customer requirements
o Available technologies
o Project constraints (budget, time, and resources)
o Competitive advantages (company IP and strategic partnerships)
• Present viable solutions with most attractive ROI
• Specify the necessary hardware, software, network infrastructure and services components
• Develop winning proposal
• Work with key stakeholders to support and drive solution within the customer organization
• Support in the successful implementation (within scope, budget and time) of proposed solution
• Document reference architectures, best practices and lessons learned for future opportunities
Specific Knowledge/Skills
Qualifications & Experience
• 7+ yrs of sales engineering experience. The ability to work in analysis and design of complex multi-technology customer solutions is desired.
• Engineering, IT, or Computer Science bachelor’s degree required; MBA and/or advanced degree preferred.
• Must have lead successful systems integration and systems implementation teams [as lead engineer or lead architect] on complex customer projects.
• At least one major industry certification in networking, OS, and/or database required.
• ITIL or PMP certification preferred (this is probably a bit much for a SA but I guess we can ask).
• Must have excellent relationships with IT vendors, IT solutions providers, integrators, and carriers in the marketplace.
• Excellent presentation skills required. Must be highly skilled with drawing and diagramming tools (such as MS Visio or similar).
• Strong verbal and written skills; fluency in English
Vertical-specific Qualifications.
• Industry domain expertise and experience in at least one of the following: public safety, government, enterprise, retail, and/or transportation and logistics
• Working experience in designing systems in any of the following areas:
o Enterprise-wide LAN/WAN; Enterprise-wide IP Telephony; Enterprise-wide WLAN
o Video
o PSIM
o Computer Aided Dispatch and Command and Control Systems (records, voice recording, mapping etc)
o Main commercial ERP systems
o LTE, WiMax, or other Broadband WAN
o Databases
o Mobile applications
o Information Security
o Integration /queuing engines
o Web Services

Vertical-specific Qualifications – Public Safety:
• At least 5+ years working in public safety (police, fire, EMS, health and human services organizations) or detailed knowledge of the workings of public safety such as approvals/influencers)
• Experience designing large solutions systems
• Experience creating solutions that meet RFP requirements that include services, systems, devices and application
• Knowledge of public safety (environment), knowledge of product services, applications
o Detailed knowledge of workings of police, fire, EMS, health and human services organizations
o Experience in other public safety areas (transportation, ports (air/sea), retail, etc.) a plus.
• Has experience proactively identifying and responding to customer needs analysis
• Experience working with 3rd party vendors and channel partners
• In-depth knowledge of command centers, including CAD systems, applications and software
• Experience in next gen 911 and designing integrated command and control centers a plus
Vertical-specific Qualifications – Retail:
• At least 5+ years working in retail, detailed knowledge of the workings of retail such as approvals/influencers, or experience in technical role(s) supporting retail customers or field teams.
• Experience with Retail C-level customers (Chief Executive Officer, Chief Information Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Marketing Officer).
• Experience designing large solutions systems.
• Experience creating solutions that meet RFP requirements that include services, systems, devices and application.
• Knowledge of retail(environment), knowledge of product services, applications.
• Knowledge of the following: Enterprise-wide LAN/WAN, Enterprise-wide IP Telephony, Enterprise-wide WLAN.
• Experience in other areas (transportation, ports (air/sea), public safety, etc.) a plus.
Vertical-specific Qualifications – US Federal Government.
